Hi everyone, Rosie & Charlie here. We love our foster mom and dad – they have welcomed us with open arms and have helped us get over losing our original mom who just got too old to care for us anymore. We miss her, but we’re enjoying our new adventure and look forward to finding our new furever home.
We’re very close, kind of like sisters (yes Charlie’s a girl!) There’s no doubt Rosie’s in charge (typical older sister). Rosie is 13 yrs old and Charlie is 10 yrs old, but don’t let the numbers fool you, we’ve got plenty of spunk and enjoy nothing more than a good game of zoomies. We help each other out as neither of us see very well. We need a home where we can be together, that means whoever is lucky enough to adopt us is going to get a twofer! And that’s a good thing…twice the love for our new humans! Could that be you?
Rosie & Charlie’s foster mom here…
These two are just the sweetest little girls. Rosie is virtually blind, but once she’s familiar with a place it’s like she can see. Dogs tend to adjust very well to being blind, much better than humans. Charlie is what’s called a double dapple – the result of 2 dapple dachshunds being bred by disreputable breeders for the colour, despite the fact it creates all kinds of physical issues including vision and hearing impairments. Charlie’s vision is better than Rosie’s, but still not great. For all that, Rosie depends on Charlie to help her get around. Rosie’s vision means that she doesn’t navigate steps very well, so either needs to be carried up and down them, or requires a secure ramp with sides. Both dogs are very happy to be where their humans are, but are also content sleeping in their crates at night. Rosie is definitely the boss with Charlie, and a home without other dogs would probably be best, or at least without timid dogs. Charlie is the more outgoing of the two, and is happy & affectionate, although both are very loving. They are not big barkers and once they feel safe in their environment, they do very well despite their vision. They have been well looked after all their lives and are very healthy overall. They are bonded and must be adopted together. Patience will be required at the start to help them with orienting themselves in their new home.
The girls’ ideal furever home will be:
• A household with someone home most of the time – possibly a mature retired couple or someone who works from home
• A calm household due to their vision problems
• No other pets would be best
• No cats
• No small children
• An apartment could be ok because they are not barkers
You can submit an adoption application through our website at: https://wenswaydoxrescue.com/adoption-journey
Adoption fee is $500 for both girls, payable by e-transfer, cash, or cheque. Located in Nova Scotia.
