Oscar – Available for Adoption

Some dogs love everyone (and every dog) they meet, but not Oscar. He takes his job as your personal body guard very seriously.
He isn’t a fan of crowds, dog parks, or strangers walking right up to him or into his home even, but once he lets you in to his inner circle, you’ll have a fiercely loyal best friend for life.
This handsome svelte boy wasn’t always so svelte. He came into care looking like an over-stuffed Oscar Mayer Wiener (see what we did there?) with a large lump on his chest. After surgery to remove the benign fatty mass, a new healthy low-cal diet with lots of veggie treats, and loads of fun exercise, Oscar has transformed into the nearly-perfect version of himself. Although he has already lost over 6lbs while in foster care, his weight-loss journey will need to continue for a couple more pounds. His new family will need to remain vigilant with his feeding routine, as he is very food-motivated to the point of jumping on the table to steal your artichoke dip, or steal the sausage right out of the bun while your back is turned. He’s a sneaky little sausage. 🌭
Oscar is looking for a calm, low-traffic home with a patient human(s) who understands that great relationships take time. If you’re willing to go slow and earn his trust, you’ll be rewarded with endless games of ‘chase me’ and a shadow who never leaves your side. (He does have separation anxiety but the good news is he loves car rides 🚗, so you can take him with you everywhere you go.)
Oscar’s Perfect Home:
* Calm environment with few visitors
* Low-traffic area with a good-sized yard
* Someone home full-time
* Healthy diet (no over feeding) 🥕
* Fenced yard or on a leash at all times
* Daily walks
* No children
* No cats or birds
* No apartments (vocal)
* Best as an only dog or with one other calm, low-key dog who respects his space
If you’re looking for a handsome black and tan, short-haired dachshund and have a calm lifestyle with few visitors, Oscar is your guy. He is neutered, micro-chipped, up-to-date on vaccinations and flea/tick meds, and has a clean bill of health from his vet. And, young at heart for 10 years old. His adoption fee is $450.
